National Atlas of the USA | |
| | " Work on a new National Atlas of the United States® began in 1997. This Atlas updates a large bound collection of paper maps that was published in 1970. Like its predecessor, this edition promotes greater national geographic awareness. It delivers easy to use, map-like views of America's natural and sociocultural landscapes. Unlike the previous Atlas, this version is largely digital.
The new National Atlas includes products and services designed to stimulate children and adults to visualize and understand complex relationships between environments, places, and people. It contributes to our knowledge of the environmental, resource, demographic, economic, social, political, and historical dimensions of American life.

British Geological Survey | | " Founded in 1835, the British Geological Survey (BGS) is the world's longest established national geological survey and the United Kingdom's premier centre for earth science information and expertise. As a public sector organisation we are responsible for advising the UK government on all aspects of geoscience as well as providing impartial geological advice to industry, academia and the public. The BGS is a component organisation of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), which is the UK's leading body for basic, strategic and applied research and monitoring in the environmental sciences. The NERC was founded by Royal Charter in 1965 and reports to the UK government's Office of Science and Technology under the Department of Trade and Industry. " ... more

SEPM | | The Sedimentary Record " The Sedimentary Record is a series published quarterly in both online and paper format by SEPM (The Society for Sedimentary Geology). The Sedimentary Record contains peer-reviewed science articles on topics of broad and current interest to the membership of SEPM, as well as shorter, editor-reviewed articles addressing a variety of topics, including society business and media reviews. We welcome written contributions from members of the Society for inclusion in the journal. We also look forward to receiving ... " more
| " SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology) is an international not-for-profit Society based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Through its network of international members, the Society is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific information on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, environmental sciences, marine geology, hydrogeology, and many additional related specialties. The Society supports members in their professional objectives by publication of two major scientific journals, the Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR) and PALAIOS, in addition to producing technical conferences, short courses, and Special Publications. Through SEPM's Continuing Education, Publications, Meetings, and other programs, members can both gain and exchange information pertinent to their geologic specialties.

Integrated Ocean Drilling Prog. | | " The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) is an international research program that explores the history and structure of the Earth as recorded in seafloor sediments and rocks. IODP builds upon the earlier successes of the Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) and Ocean Drilling Program (ODP), which revolutionized our view of Earth history and global processes through ocean basin exploration. IODP greatly expands the reach of these previous programs by using multiple drilling vessels, including riser, riserless, and mission-specific platforms, to achieve its scientific goals. These goals follow the themes outlined in the IODP Initial Science Plan: "Earth, Oceans and Life: Scientific Investigations of the Earth System Using Multiple Drilling Platforms and New Technologies" more

USGS Earthquake | | " This web site is provided by the United States Geological Survey’s Earthquake Hazard Program as part of our effort to reduce earthquake hazard in the United States. We are part of the USGS Geologic Discipline and are the USGS component of the congressionally-established, multi-agency National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP). The UGS participates in the NEHRP with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the National Science Foundation (NFS). In the 2004 reauthorization of NEHRP by Congress, NIST has been given the lead role to plan and coordinate this national effort to mitigate earthquake losses by developing and applying earth science data and assessments essential for land-use planning, engineering design, and emergency preparedness decisions.
