Proven Energy

"Proven Energy wind turbines have helped homeowners, farmers, land owners and corporate clients drive down energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint and gain grid independence.

Proven Energy is proud of what it has achieved since 1980. Founder, Gordon Proven, set out with a vision of creating a greener future for Scotland’s electricity and worked tirelessly to develop robust, reliable wind turbines.

Having monitored the growing wind industry for many years, Gordon identified the need for a robust wind turbine capable of peak performance in high winds - even in hurricanes and typhoons.

Gordon's aim was to develop a unique blade design to combat the high wind shut down that other turbines experience. This blade design would allow the blades to pitch and cone to adjust aerodynamic efficiencies in high winds. Proven Energy wind turbines are able to generate power in all wind conditions completely eliminating turbine 'shut down'." ... more

Windside

Windside is unique and admired by many already when they first see it. What makes Windside unique and perform as well as it does is a result of over thirty years of research and development, production, refinement and improvement.

It is not simple to build a turbine that will start to generate power at 1.5 m/s wind speed and is guaranteed to carry on working and producing power at constant 60 m/s wind speed.

Originally Windside wind turbines were designed and built mainly to charge battery banks of 12, 24 or 48 V for supply of power to DC instruments, signals, lights and systems in remote and harsh environments.

Today Windside wind turbines are more and more emerging in the urban environment. The Windside has an aesthetic quality that appears to be liked by all. The slow, graceful rotation of the double helix vane structure has a mesmeric quality that is eye-catching. For this reason it has been the choice of architects and artists who use the turbine as an artistic addition to a building, or as a stand-alone self-contained piece of functional wind art in parks and public spaces. These pieces of wind art can be used for corporate image or advertising purposes.

Eoltec SCIROCCO

"Scirocco is a 5.6 m diameter rotor, 6 kW output professional-scale wind generator ideal for remote sites with medium power needs, such as small farms, houses, or large homesteads and especially rural or village electrification, sea water desalination, direct electrical water run-of-the-wind pumping.

Unlike most of its competitors, which use furling technique to decrease acquisition cost at the detriment of performances and reliability, Scirocco WT is designed and realized without compromise, using state of the art components, centrifugal pitch overspeed regulation device, slewing rings for blades attachment and yawing, 100% sealed direct drive permanent magnet generator. Design and calculations have been made in accordance with IEC 61400-2 design rules.

Scirocco is characterized by low rotation speed, a very high efficiency, more particularly in the lower to medium wind speed range which is prevailing most of the time . This is the result of the conjunction of an optimized 2 blades rotor, an efficient direct drive PM generator, and variable speed management combined with the maximal power point tracking control following the constantly varying wind speed.

Noticeable points, energy production starts from less than 3m/s, rated power is obtained from 12 m/s and remain constant up to the maximum wind speed (60 m/s), thanks to the overspeed centrifugal full span pitch control device. These unique features make the Scirocco unit the most powerful WT of its class, without equivalent on the market, with a real energy production which is superior to those of some 7m diam. wind turbines. Tip speed is limited to 70m/s for low noise and low wearing.

The high availability of Scirocco WT power production makes it a reliable source of cost effective renewable energy throughout the years and weather conditions. Its superior low/medium wind performances opens new possibilities for the application of medium size wind power in distributed power production with minimal environmental impact." ... more

Maglev Wind Turbine Technologies, Inc.

"Wind power is a proven and highly effective way to generate electricity. However, today's wind mill type generators are inefficient, expensive, maintenance intense, hazardous to wildlife and require too much land. The design of the conventional wind mill has evolved into the 21st century. However, the basic science remains as old as their 16th century Dutch counterparts. If it were not for government subsidies and tax credits of all types, it would take a half a century to turn a real profit. The solution to the equation is the total transfer of the kinetic energy produced by the wind without friction. All horizontal axis wind mills use less than 1% of the available wind. A sailing vessel would never leave the dock if the sails and rigging were replaced with a large propeller attached to the mast. Initially, the wind must be captured not deflected to produce maximum power.

The Maglev Wind Turbine is designed to generate electricity from wind power with a new standard of efficiency.

MLWTH entered a new paradigm for wind energy. MLWTH energy strategy is to provide our customers with affordable, long term manageable costs for electricity, from environmentally sound, renewable energy supplies. One option is to upgrade the existing wind farms with the newest wind turbine technology. Upgrading existing 20-year sites will allow us to take advantage of both the existing infrastructure already in place and overall support for the existing location. New wind farms will also benefit from lower construction costs and less land acquisition requirements. " ... more

The ridgeblade
The ridgeblade

"The ridgeblade is the first product from The Power Collective and is an affordable and effective way of generating renewable electricity from wind, including within urban areas.

It is designed to be retrofitted easily and without significant visual impact. It uses the existing roof area to collect and focus the prevailing wind using the Aeolian wind focus effect. This is where the wind is forced to travel over the roof surface and forms a pinch point at the roof ridge, accelerating the airflow though the turbine.

As a result, measured wind speed around the ridge is two to three times the actual wind speed.

Placing the turbine in this high flow area means that much more energy is available to it compared to traditional systems. In addition, this means that the ridgeblade will work efficiently in much lower wind speed conditions.

The ridgeblade is designed to self-start and produce electricity at wind speeds of 4 mph +." ... more
Sauer Energy logo
Sauer Energy
Sauer Energy

"The Sauer Energy Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) is highly efficient because of the maximum drag produced by the power generating blades as they are moved by the wind. The equal blade of the turbine produces less drag. Thus, efficiency increases with the degree of differential between high drag and low drag.

The concave high drag side of the wind transfers kinetic energy to the rotor shaft. The rotor shaft of the VAWT will be directly connected to a generator to convert over to usable electricity. The convex blade will produce less aerodynamic drag.

The Sauer Energy VAWT drag is incrementally reduced because its swept area and the drag force may be controlled. The turbine torque is gained by increased size of blades and distance in mass, rather than vertical height. The force produced by the volume of the wind is directly applied to the rotational axis of the turbine, thereby extracting maximum power at lower wind speeds.

Larger wind-swept area will result in slower rotational speed, which will create a greater torque and more power flow. To increase the power flow of our VAWT, the size of the turbine blades must be increased to resist more of the wind's mass. Thus, scalable models can adapt to the various needs.

Sauer Energy considers drag to be a much more powerful force than lift in harnessing and capturing kinetic energy. More mass equals kinetic energy." ... more

Fortis Wind Energy

"Holland has a rich history of using the energy of the wind for improving the quality of life. From the grinding of weed and the sawing of wood to the drainage of large parts of Holland, the work was done by windmills. While these days are in the past, the current development in wind energy technology is making a similar contribution. Providing clean energy and power independence from the grid, Fortis continues this tradition.

The founder of Fortis Wind Energy, Mr Johan Kuikman, has 25 years of experience in the design and development of wind turbines. Being a Dutch engineer by profession his focus has always been getting a better performance for a lower price. This philosophy is nowadays one of the solid basements of the Fortis company.

This philosophy resulted in over 6000 turbines installed world wide. From the deserts of Mauritania, to the ice fields of the Artic and the rugged terrain in Scotland, Fortis turbines keep performing. Some of the oldest models installed in 1981 are still functional. One of our Passaats is used on a platform in the Noth Sea, this standard model has never stopped since it was installed.

Our current models are based on the same principle as the ’81 versions: an upwind rotor with a fail safe vane security system. This principle guarantees a high yield because the turbine will never stop functioning, but at the same time it protects the turbine by gale force winds.

The use of high tech materials in combination with a simple design results in state of the art wind turbines at a low price. Quality products have made us European market leader." ... more

The WindportsTM, The turbine effect windmill

Since 1998, Optilog and it's affiliated companies have invested intensively in research and development in order to design a new model, even more efficient that the previous line of turbine windmills.

After more than four years of extensive research and development work, and with the collaboration of the N.R.C. (National Research council of Canada), Optilog ran extensive wind tunnel tests in October of 2000 on a new model of turbine windmill, the WindPortsTM. Furthermore, this unit got perfected, thanks to intensive modeling works using the C.F.D. methodology (Computerized fluid design). This revolutionized unit has been already patented, and 5, 10 and 20kW units are installed or been manufactured around the world."
The Windports
The WindportsTM

Several of the previous units have been installed around the world, especially in Brazil, the Netherlands and Quebec. We even offer to those long time users to benefit from the latest developments that the WindPortsTM offers. Since the end of 1999, we have started the set-up of a manufacturing facility for the WindPortsTM units in the province of Quebec. The WindPortsTM is now the only windmill functioning with turbine principle.

The WindPortsTM offers you numerous unique advantages:
  - Simple concept and ease of construction, reliable and performing, rapid mounting, without the need of a large crane.
  - Can be installed on several rooftops.
  - Modular concept from 5 to 20 kW and more upon request, without increasing the base square footage.
  - Can withstand winds of 200 km/h when standard propeller units must be stopped at winds of 70 km/h.
  - Absolutely noise free and without vibrations.
  - Minimal required maintenance.
  - Highest efficiency due to the shape of the vanes (it's shape and the rotating movement around an vertical axis allows for a better usage of the wind, for a much longer period). The WindPortsTM captures all 3 vectors of the wind when conventional windmills only capture one. This allows increasing the performance very dramatically.
  - Winds of only 6.5 km/h are required to start the WindPortsTM, compared to 17 - 20 KPH for conventional windmills.
  - Installation is usually complete within 1 (one) day.
  - The WindPortsTM does not require a mechanical braking system to protect it from high winds, as do conventional windmills. (Most other windmills have to be deflected away from high winds - they actually stop working at the most opportune - or inopportune - time).
  - The WindPortsTM is made of fibreglass, aluminium, stainless steel, and PVC, making it extremely resistant to corrosion and UV rays.
  - The WindPortsTM has a lifespan of 30 years." ... more
Aerostar Wind Turbines logo
Image Aerostar Wind Turbines
"Aerostar 6 Meter and 11 Meter Turbines began their design and production history the early 1980s.

If you are seriously considering the purchase of a small wind turbine, it is important to purchase one with a proven track record. Of the handful of 10 kW wind turbines in full production in the US today, only two, the Bergey Excel and the Aerostar 6 Meter, can trace their origins back to the late 1970s and early 1980s. Of the 30 kW turbines being produced today, only one, the Aerostar 11 Meter design was produced in the early 1980s. Small wind turbines are quite difficult to engineer. The successful design of a small wind turbine often requires balancing elements that are in conflict with each other. For example, the turbine must be capable of withstanding high winds, but, at the same time, it must be efficient at low wind speeds. A generator having sufficient capacity to produce high power levels, must also be efficient at low power levels.

Most small wind turbines operate at average wind speeds of 10-14 MPH. However, they must be capable of withstanding winds 10 times these speeds. This is a difficult task, even for a talented engineer. The reality is that even the best engineering design and analysis will only get you part way there when setting out to design a turbine that works and lasts. It takes years of experience and testing to get it right. It takes installing turbines in all sorts of environments to get it right. The Aerostar 6 Meter has the benefit of more than 25 years of experience. That's one reason why we got it right." ... more

Windpods Technology

"Winpods are a 'start from scratch' purpose-built design approach to urban wind power covering several different design aspects unique to Winpods that are critical to urban wind performance.

Although each Windpods blade cross-section shape is a full aerofoil, the foil is shaped and positioned in such a way as to provide a dual drag AND lift operational effect. In very light winds, the foils catch the wind in the same way as a drag-type Savonius rotor and provide easy starting. However, once the turbine gains sufficient RPM the rotor starts to act as a lift type device (spins faster than wind speed) with the TSR (Tip Speed Ratio) typically running between 1.5 and 2.

Deflector/Concentrator edges. DLI made a performance breakthrough by discovering that not only did roof-top ridge-lines concentrate wind into the turbine, but also provide other critical performance enhancements. As a result, roof apex lines and building corners not only provide structurally practical mounting points but also significantly improve turbine performance.

Traditional Horizontal Axis Wind turbines (HAWTS) usually involve a higher cost to mount in urban environments than to purchase the HAWT in the first place. However, the size and shape of Winpods makes them easy to mount on buildings and keeps the overall cost down to a very low, economically attractive range.

Other key characteristics of Winpods include :
  - Extremely low noise and vibration.
  - Able to operate vertically, horizontally or any angle in-between.
  - Able to operate efficiently in gusty and turbulent winds such as typically found in urban environments.
  - Able to be modularly mounted onto buildings at low cost in a location where wind is at highest concentration.
  - Excellent power production per dollar of cost.
  - Slender, elongated tubes of only 0.45m diameter.
  - Being only 450mm diameter, should not require Council planning approvals." ... more

The WindCube Overview

"The WindCube relies on its "wind tunnel" effect known in physics as the Bernoulli Principle. While the rest of the wind industry generates energy through the use of free-stream wind, the WindCube captures and amplifies the wind, which produces more kilowatt-hours (kWh). As wind encounters the WindCube® shroud, it becomes concentrated creating increased velocity and in turn, more power. By amplifying the natural wind speed, the WindCube® is able to produce more power from a smaller footprint. Proportionally, the WindCube® has the smallest footprint with the largest amount of power output in the industry. Because of these attributes, the WindCube® is uniquely designed to produce energy in urban, populated areas with space constraints.

The WindCube: How it works

As the wind blows, the WindCube orients itself into the wind via an electromechanical yaw system. The shroud then catches the wind, forcing it through the turbine. The turbine generator is connected directly to your business and as electricity is generated- your business is powered. If the wind isn't blowing your business is powered by the energy grid as usual. If the wind is blowing strongly then your energy produced can exceed your energy consumed and, depending on your local utility, your meter can spin backwards rolling back your energy bill. The WindCube can operate at ambient wind speeds of as low as five miles per hour which helps keep a constant flow of power into the system.

The patented shroud technology optimally funnels the wind toward the rotor. The aerodynamic profile will double the wind speeds before reaching the blades making the WindCube capable of producing 8 times as much energy. The airfoil design is optimized to take full advantage of the shroud and produce the maximum amount of kilowatt-hours (kWh).

The rotor blades on the WindCube® are designed for maximum lift, efficiency and structural integrity." ... more

The Powerhouse Overview

"Until recently, reliable turbines for small scale wind power generation have not been available. Existing household wind power generation has largely been limited to wind turbines built, installed, and maintained by enthusiasts. Powerhouse Wind's engineers started with a different approach. We set out to use our experience in designing high-volume, mass-market consumer products and applied it to designing and manufacturing a wind turbine purpose built for use in a domestic environment. The result? The Thinair 102 turbine; reliable, simple and elegant.

The first thing people ask when they see a Thinair turbine is "why does it have only one blade?" The answer to that question is the key to understanding the unique benefits that Thinair's innovative and patented single blade teetering hub design offers." ... more
