Most of my friends and family live 2000 miles away, but still I wanted them to be able to see her grow up! I started out mailing pictures to them, but most of the time I was just too busy to go make copies of the "good" pictures that I wanted everyone to see. Being the internet enthusiast that I am I decided it would be so much easier (and cooler) to put everything on a web page for her and let them see for themselves what a beautiful baby she was. What Is Prematurity?

"Prematurity is when your baby is less than 37 weeks old at the time of birth. A term baby is born at 38 to 42 weeks.

A premature baby is usually not fully developed, meaning some vital organs might not be functioning at optimal levels. Some may not be ready to operate at all, which is why these babies are placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and cared for by specialists.

It is perfectly normal to be concerned about this delicate situation; you are not alone. Globally, 12.9 million babies—10 percent of the world birth population—are born prematurely each year. In the United States, preterm births have risen 36 percent in the past 25 years. Africa has the highest rate at 11.9 percent, followed by North America with 10.6 percent, and then Asia with 9.1%. "In September 1984, six St. Louis women gathered around a dining room table to discuss their concern that the US bishops, who had announced their intention to write a pastoral letter on the subject of "women's concerns", might not receive an accurate picture of Catholic women. The women were concerned about the impression given in the media that most Catholic women feel "alienated" from the Church, and dissent from Church teachings on issues ranging from abortion to ordination. They were aware that feminist theology had influenced many women and Catholic leaders. They wanted to do something positive to overcome this distorted image of Catholic women.

The result of the women's discussions was an eight-point statement of fidelity to Church teachings on a wide range of issues. They began to circulate the statement, called the Affirmation for Catholic Women, among their friends and colleagues, inviting them to reproduce the Affirmation and to help collect signatures

Women for Faith & Family was formed to assist in distribution of the Affirmation, to foster greater communication among faithful Catholic women, and to be helpful in communicating their concerns to the bishops and other Church leaders.
