Babies Online
Babies Online was created by, Shannon Anderson. "I'm a single mother of a beautiful baby girl who was born in September 1996. Most of my friends and family live 2000 miles away, but still I wanted them to be able to see her grow up! I started out mailing pictures to them, but most of the time I was just too busy to go make copies of the "good" pictures that I wanted everyone to see. Being the internet enthusiast that I am I decided it would be so much easier (and cooler) to put everything on a web page for her and let them see for themselves what a beautiful baby she was. Needless to say, it was a hit! I thought everyone should be able to do this, but since many people don't have the time, or the knowledge, to write a web page for themselves and their children, why don't I do it for them?! Thus the creation of Babies Online... more

BabyFirstWhat Is Prematurity?

"Prematurity is when your baby is less than 37 weeks old at the time of birth. A term baby is born at 38 to 42 weeks.

A premature baby is usually not fully developed, meaning some vital organs might not be functioning at optimal levels. Some may not be ready to operate at all, which is why these babies are placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and cared for by specialists.

It is perfectly normal to be concerned about this delicate situation; you are not alone. Globally, 12.9 million babies—10 percent of the world birth population—are born prematurely each year. In the United States, preterm births have risen 36 percent in the past 25 years. Africa has the highest rate at 11.9 percent, followed by North America with 10.6 percent, and then Asia with 9.1%. The premature birth rates for Latin America and the Caribbean are at 8.1 percent, Australia and New Zealand are at 6.4 percent, and Europe is at 6.2 percent." ... more

Recipe to Find More Joy
"During your journey with your premature baby, consider the following strategies to allow more joy into your life:
1. Meditate. Pray or meditate each day to gain spiritual or emotional strength for the challenge. Feel your physical strength building each day.
2. Be honest. Be open and honest with yourself and others about the fears you have. Talk through them and then make the decision not to live your life around the “What if’s.
3. Find & Celebrate Joys. Find something to celebrate each day, even if it’s something small, so you remember to be joyful.
4. Help others. By reaching out to others, you’re putting."

It is not our intention to distribute volumes of information about the Catholic faith — there are hundreds of beautiful web sites that have accomplished this. We will gladly answer any questions that we can, but we will refer you to our resources to better answer any questions that you may have. Prayer intentions are always welcome. We pray the Holy Rosary daily for the conversion of sinners.

"In September 1984, six St. Louis women gathered around a dining room table to discuss their concern that the US bishops, who had announced their intention to write a pastoral letter on the subject of "women's concerns", might not receive an accurate picture of Catholic women. The women were concerned about the impression given in the media that most Catholic women feel "alienated" from the Church, and dissent from Church teachings on issues ranging from abortion to ordination. They were aware that feminist theology had influenced many women and Catholic leaders. They wanted to do something positive to overcome this distorted image of Catholic women.

The result of the women's discussions was an eight-point statement of fidelity to Church teachings on a wide range of issues. They began to circulate the statement, called the Affirmation for Catholic Women, among their friends and colleagues, inviting them to reproduce the Affirmation and to help collect signatures

Women for Faith & Family was formed to assist in distribution of the Affirmation, to foster greater communication among faithful Catholic women, and to be helpful in communicating their concerns to the bishops and other Church leaders.

The response to the Affirmation was overwhelming. Within a few months, 4,000 signatures had been received, and a copy of the Affirmation with a list of the signers was sent to the Bishops' Committee on Women." ... more

Did you know?
It is even more urgent.
•Language development begins in the womb. Infants less than an hour old can tell the difference between the language of their parents and a foreign language.
•Children are born wanting to talk and communicate with the adults in their lives—that's you!
•The first year of life is critically important for language development, even though many babies do not say any words during this period.
•How, and how much, you talk to your children from birth to age three has a huge influence on their language skills in school.
•Babies can communicate many of their needs and wants before they start talking, and how you respond can help them learn the words and phrases they will use later."

"If you're reading this, chances are you're worried. You may be worried that your child has a communication delay or disorder and wondering how to find out for sure. Your child may already have been identified with a speech delay or a language disorder, and you're wondering where to turn for help." ... more

"Montessori Education & Your Child
Montessori is a unique educational approach that nurtures a child’s intrinsic desire to learn. Montessori focuses on the whole child—his cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

Montessori education is right for children of any age. Some Montessori schools provide all levels of learning, from infant/toddler though the secondary level. Others offer only certain education levels.

Introducing your child to Montessori as early as possible puts her on the right path to becoming a confident, self-motivated learner.

The Door to Learning
In a Montessori environment, children learn by exploring and manipulating specially designed materials. Each material teaches one concept or skill at a time, and lays a foundation from which students can comprehend increasingly abstract ideas.

Children work with materials at their own pace, repeating an exercise until it is mastered. The teacher may gently guide the process, but her goal is to inspire rather than instruct.

Throughout the classroom, beautifully prepared, inviting curriculum areas contain a sequential array of lessons to be learned. As students work through the sequence, they build and expand on materials and lessons already mastered. And all the while they are developing qualities with which they’ll approach every future challenge: autonomy, creative thinking, and satisfaction in a job well done." ... more

"Most teachers and therapist already know first hand about the power of music. We have lost count of the number of times an educator has described a special child to us beginning with the phrase, “I have this child who won’t talk but will sing....” or “One of my students, who won’t do much else, loves to sing...” or “I sing entire lessons to keep a child’s attention....” Many others express the regret that they don’t feel they can sing well enough. Let our CDs take the stage fright out of using music in a classroom or therapeutic setting. Our music is based on well researched drills, not mother goose. We won’t mix in lines about cows jumping over the moon, men selling muffins, or mice sprinting up a clock. We avoid the use of nursery rhymes because the special needs mind is often so literal.

These are not nursery rhymes, but speech development lessons put to music.

Why Music? - The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function states: “New studies are reporting overlapping areas for music and language processing. Rhythm has been found to positively influence brain activity during learning; scientists have reported that after a rhythm sequence is stopped, brain activity occurs in anticipation." ... more
