Student Expl. & Dev. Space | | " SEDS is an independent, student-based organization which promotes the exploration and development of space. SEDS pursues this mission by educating people about the benefits of space, by supporting a network of interested students, by providing an opportunity for members to develop their leadership skills, and inspiring people through our involvement in space-related projects. SEDS believes in a space-faring civilization and that focussing the enthusiasm of young people is the key to our future in space. Students for the Exploration and Development of Space was founded in 1980 at MIT and Princeton and consists of an international group of high school, undergraduate, and graduate students from a diverse range of educational backgrounds... International Space University | | "At the International Space University, international experts train and educate professionals to take the lead in the international space arena. Interdisciplinary diversity integrated into a coherent, structured whole in a truly international, multicultural environment - the originality of ISU's programs lies in this approach. At ISU, all students study all space-related disciplines, vastly broadening their vision and enabling them to understand the complex interactions between disciplines. By approaching the utilization of space from a global perspective, ISU gives its graduates a powerful, competitive edge in the profession. They become capable of understanding and easily crossing the traditional barriers arising between individuals from different nations, with different cultural backgrounds. They break new ground in international cooperation on space programs." more

SPACE.EDU | | | "The UND Master of Science degree in Space Studies is a unique and valuable educational experience, both for those seeking to enter this exciting field, and aerospace professionals who wish to expand their breadth of knowledge. However, due to existing employment and/or family commitments, many who would benefit from the program are unable to attend on-campus classes. For this reason, starting January 1996, the M.S. in Space Studies has been offered as a Distance Education program. We hope to reach aerospace professionals and pre-professionals who cannot come to North Dakota for the two-year conventional program. The goal of the Space Studies program is to offer, via modern distance learning techniques, a fully-accredited education with the same courses and the same level of opportunities for discussion, advisement and research as our campus students enjoy. The only administrative difference from the campus program is that distant students will not be permitted to have a minor or cognate." more

Goddard Space Flight Academy | NASA Academy at Goddard Space Flight Center | "As the scientific flagship of the space agency, Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is committed to excellence in scientific investigation, in the development and operation of space systems, and in the advancement of essential technologies. GSFC is the lead center in NASA's Destination Earth program, which is dedic ted to understanding Earth as a global environmental system. State-of-the-art computational sciences and scientific visualization is one of our strengths. In addition to supporting most of NASA's low Earth orbiting satellites, the Flight Projects team has developed and is currently developing hardware and mission planning for all of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Servicing missions. Researchers at Goddard are exploring the components and the origins of galaxies, the nature of the inter-stellar medium, and the complexities of our own Sun, primarily on missions conducted on GSFC developed, constructed and operated satellites. GSFC produces enabling technologies in cryogenics, sensors, robotics, and space-borne data systems." more

Gravity Probe B | | " Gravity Probe B is the relativity gyroscope experiment being developed by NASA and Stanford University to test two extraordinary, unverified predictions of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity. The experiment will check, very precisely, tiny changes in the direction of spin of four gyroscopes contained in an Earth satellite orbiting at 400-mile altitude directly over the poles. So free are the gyroscopes from disturbance that they will provide an almost perfect space-time reference system. They will measure how space and time are warped by the presence of the Earth, and, more profoundly, how the Earth's rotation drags space-time around with it. These effects, though small for the Earth, have far-reaching implications for the nature of matter and the structure of the Universe.
