" The mission of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is to protect America's animal and plant resources by: • Safeguarding resources from exotic invasive pests and diseases, • Monitoring and managing agricultural pests and diseases existing in the United States, • Resolving and managing trade issues related to animal or plant health, and • Ensuring the humane care and treatment of animals."

WDFW The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife : The agency is made up of biologists, researchers, managers and other employees negotiating deals for fish and wildlife and their habitat. The agency boasts some of the world's foremost experts in these areas. The agency's mission is to provide sound stewardship of fish and wildlife. The health and well-being of fish and wildlife is important not only to the species themselves, but to humans as well. Often, when fish and wildlife populations are threatened, their decline can predict environmental hazards or patterns that also may have a negative impact on people.

N F W F : The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation supports the conservation of native fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats by attracting diverse investments to conservation and encouraging locally supported stewardship on private and public lands. Congress created the Foundation in 1984 to benefit the conservation of fish, wildlife, and plants, and the habitat on which they depend. The Foundation does not support lobbying, political advocacy, or litigation.

National Wetlands Inventory

The National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service produces information on the characteristics, extent, and status of the Nation’s wetlands and deepwater habitats. The National Wetlands Inventory Center information is used by Federal, State, and local agencies, academic institutions, U.S. Congress, and the private sector. The NWIC has mapped 90 percent of the lower 48 states, and 34 percent of Alaska. About 44 percent of the lower 48 states, and 13 percent of Alaska are digitized. Congressional mandates require the NWIC to produce status and trends reports to Congress at ten-year intervals. In addition to status and trends reports, the NWIC has produced over 130 publications, including manuals, plant and hydric soils lists, field guides, posters, wall size resource maps, atlases, state reports, and numerous articles published in professional journals.

The primary mission of the laboratory is to: Identify the species or subspecies of pieces, parts or products of an animal. Determine the cause-of-death of an animal. Help wildlife officers determine if a violation of law has occurred. Identify and compare physical evidence in an attempt to link suspect, victim and crime scene.

"A quarter-century ago, Congress took the far-sighted step of creating the Endangered Species Act, widely regarded as the world's strongest and most effective wildlife conservation law. It set an ambitious goal: to reverse the alarming trend of human-caused extinctions that threatened the ecosystems we all share. Like an animal adapting to a changing environment, the Act has evolved to allow new approaches for conservation. Amendments and adminstrative changes ensure a strong scientific basis for decisions on endangered species, facilitate large-scale planning to accommodate land use and wildlife habitat, and promote innovative public/private partnerships."
