The mission of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC or Commission) is to administer and enforce the federal securities laws in order to protect investors and to maintain fair, honest and efficient markets. For the sake of continuity, composition changes are rare, and generally occur only after corporate acquisitions or other dramatic shifts in a component's core business.
