This unique super heavy lifter was designed and constructed in 1984/1988 mainly to perform the following missions: transportation of cargoes inside the cabin; transportation of oversized cargoes mounted outside the fuselage; carrier functions (first stage) for various aerospace systems. The aircraft has a capacious cargo cabin that allows to transport a variety of cargoes weighing up to 250 tons. For instance, it is possible to arrange in the cargo compartment either sixteen standard aeronautical containers of UAK type each holding 10 tons, or eighty cars, or any asingle-piece cargoes weighing to 200 tons (turbines, generators, dumpers - Belaz, Kamatsu, Euclid, etc.). The cargo cabin is 43 m long, 6.4 m wide and 4.4 m high. Pressurised, it allows to carry any sort of freight inside.

An74-T

The basis of the family is the AN-74, a twin-turbofan airplane, designed for support of research, ice floe reconnaissance and transport operations in the Arctic and the Antarctic, as well as for commercial cargo carriage over medium-haul routes in all climatic conditions ranging from -60°C up to +45°C. The AN-74 was designed on the basis of the AN-72 military airlifter and inherited from the latter its excellent performance, self-sufficiency in operation on the unpaved airfields and the ability to fly steep flight paths with short takeoff and landing. The AN-74 is designed to carry up to 7.5 tonnes of cargo at a cruising speed of up to 700 km/h at a cruising flight altitude of 10,100 m.
The aircraft is powered with two A-36 series 2A turbofans rated at 6,500 kgf takeoff thrust each. The engines have low fuel consumption and high level of reliability. They meet ICAO requirements for aircraft engine emissions and noise. High engine arrangement practically precludes ingestion of foreign objects into engine air intakes at takeoff and landing even when operating on pebble airfields.
Auxiliary power unit based on the TA-12 gas turbine, installed in the right landing gear sponson, ensures the A-36 engine pneumatic start, supply of compressed air to the air conditioning system on the ground and AC power supply to the aircraft electrical system both on the ground and in flight.
Landing gear with low-pressure tires allows autonomous operation of the aircraft on both hard-surface runways and unpaved strips...
"The AN-32 light military transport multi-purpose aircraft can be operated in various climate conditions, including hot climate (up to + 55°C) and from the mountain airfields (up to 4500 m height).
The main aircraft purpose is to transport cargoes over the short and medium range air routes. Besides it can be used for carrying people, parachute delivery of people and cargo platforms on the pallets, and also as the ambulance variant.
The aircraft has a high maneuverability of flights to the mountain airfields with difficult approaches.
The AN-32 aircraft is fitted with all required modern cargo handling devices:

- large cargo door at the rear part of the fuselage with a ramp, which can be shifted under the fuselage or lowered to the ground thus providing fast aircraft unloading and loading from a truck;
- upper cargo handling equipment for loading and unloading of up to 3 t weight of cargoes;
- demountable roller equipment that provides handling operations of the packed cargoes on pallets or platforms.

The semi-automatic locks of the roller equipment, used to fasten the pallets, reduce significantly the aircraft idle time.
When cargoes are placed along the cargo floor the roller equipment is put to the fuselage sides or removed.
The cargo compartment and door dimensions allow transporting the large-size cargoes, self-propelled wheeled vehicles, and cars. Cargoes and vehicles are fastened to the floor detachable tie-down fittings with the aid of nets and tie-down straps..." more
"The AN-70 aircraft belongs to a new generation of the short takeoff and landing tactical military medium transport.
AN-70 is capable to carry practically any item of the military armament and equipment nomenclature with a total weight up to 35-47 t of cargo over the 3,000-5100 km range at cruising speed of 700-750 km/h, air drop of personnel and vehicles, including the single piece of cargoes up to 21 t with both high and low altitudes, delivery of 300 soldiers and evacuation of 206 wounded and sick persons. Maximum service range is 8,000 km. Depending on the type of operation and takeoff weight, AN-70 can be operated both from the concrete runways of the 1550-1800 m length and unpaved strips of the 600-800 m length with a low covering strength. With the short takeoff and landing regime, when operating from the 600-800 m length unpaved runways, AN-70 is capable to carry 20 t of cargo to the 3,000 km range.
Four D-27 engines with the SV-27 counter-rotating propfans ensure a high cruising speed and 20-30% fuel economy in comparison with modern turbojet airplanes. The integrated digital system of the airborne equipment provides operation of the aircraft at all latitudes, around-the-clock, in the VFR and IFR weather conditions, the flights over the military dispositions, the takeoff and landing from the unequipped unpaved airfields. Application of the equipment with the multiplex channels of data exchange makes it possible to modify and adapt easily the onboard avionics to any version.
The build-in aerial delivery system ensures the autonomous loading/unloading of the wide range of cargoes and their air dropping. The onboard loading equipment consists of four overhead rail electric motor hoists with a total cargo lifting capacity of 12 t, two onboard electric winches with the 1.5-ton tractive effort each. At customer request the aircraft can be equipped with the easily removable upper deck or roller conveyer to automate the container handling operations..." more
At present the air cargo industry is experiencing a boom cycle evidenced by air cargo traffic which has exceeded the passenger traffic growth rate almost twofold for the last decade. According to IATA, the Boeing Company and Airbus Industrie forecasts, air freight RTKs will triple by 2015. Capabilities inherent in the An-124-100 have offered quite new kinds of services since its entry into service. These capabilites have proved cost-effective for customers and manufacturers of various equipment. Antonov Airlines is the commercial airline arm of O.K.Antonov Aeronautical Scientific & Technical Complex (ASTC) and carries out worldwide cargo operations competing with other major airlines of the world. Our aircraft have carried hundreds of thousand tonnes including outsized and heavy cargoes which could not be carried by other aircraft. IN addition, charityflights have been performed under the auspices of the Ukrainian government charity programs and numerous different humanitarian relief flights.
